BUILDING PROJECT
Faith Assembly of God, realizing a need for more space, searched for property that would accommodate the needs of its growing congregation. After an extensive search, we purchased the present property from Vassar College because it met our building needs. Our current plan fully complies with the town's zoning laws. We are not asking for special favors. There are those who would try and scale down the project simply because they feel it is too ambitious. We would disagree.
THE SIZE OF THE PROJECT
The members of Faith Assembly are people who are part of this community, many of whom are-long time residents and have sacrificially given from their savings and weekly salaries to build this project. It is not an outside organization coming into the community, but it is people who live here on Colburn Drive and who live throughout the Town of Poughkeepsie and surrounding areas who voted to build this new facility. We are not exceeding the use of the land or asking for variances. We are using the property within all the confines of the law. Our lot coverage for the building is roughly 11% and is below that allowed by code 25%.
NEIGHBORS IN FAVOR OF BUILDING PROJECT
There are neighbors such as Mike and Barbara Helm who live right on the corner of Colburn and Spackenkill, (for 25yrs) who attend Faith Assembly and are very much in favor of our project. They feel that it will add value to their property.
TRAFFIC ISSUES
We are committed to have our traffic consultant work with the Town and the DOT to assure that the site access is constructed in accordance with all currently required standards, requirements and specifications. The church has agreed with DOT and the Township to make road improvements to the intersection at Spackenkill and Boardman Roads.
Church services are at off-peak times. Therefore our major traffic is at “off peak” times on the road network. During inclement weather, when the roads are hazardous, the church has consistently cancelled services, notifying its congregants through a phone tree, web site and radio announcements. In fact, in our estimation, the church's new location will alleviate some of the neighbors' concerns because we would be making road improvements to the Spackenkill and Boardman Road intersection. These changes will benefit everyone who travels these roads.
